Wolk had written a blog Dredd Reckoning and articles at the back of IDW's Judge Dredd comics and was asked to write a comic story. Wolk has spent a lot of time in California (though is from higher up on the West Coast) and has used his experiences in writing City of Courts. Some of Wolk's favourite Dredd sequences are the stories involving America Jara, Necropolis, Day of Chaos and Trifecta.
