Agrarianism is a philosophy that places rural society over urban society, the independent farmer as the superior to the waged worker, and sees farming as a way of life that can shape the ideal social values. The philosophy dictates that farming is the sole occupation that offers total independence, and self suficiencey, that urban life destroys independence and identity while fostering vice, and weakness, that an agricultural community with it's fellowship of labor and cooperation is the ideal society, that a life of cultivation generates a spiritual good fostering "honor, manliness, courage, self reliance, hospitality, and moral integrety" while allowing humanity to be more intune to the natural world as opposed to an often alienated urban society.
