The Kentucky Derby is an American horse race held on the first Saturday in May in Louisville, Kentucky. Open to three year-old thoroughbred horses, the race was first held in 1864, and is one and a quarter miles long. Many horses who have competed in the race have become quite famous, including Summer Squall.
