On March 3, 1986, George was on the telephone with his agent. According to the agent, Robert Zemeckis wanted to turn the book into a movie, but George said that he didn't feel that the guy who directed Romancing the Stone was the right person to direct it, and told him to continue shopping it around to other directors. A Match Made in Space was later made into a film in 1989, by an unknown director, and bombed at the box office.
