Joe is a huge giant gorilla and the titular character in 1949's Mighty Joe Young, and again in the 1998 Disney reincarnation, as the deuteragonist. He is a heroic ape who wants to live peacefully. And he befriends a human girl named Jill Young. In the end of the movie he rescues a child Jason.
