Sidney Vivian (born 18th April 1901 in Prestwich as Sidney Drapkin, died 22nd December 1984 in St Albans) appeared in Coronation Street in March 1968 as Mr Skinner. He enjoyed a long career, first in radio from the mid-1930s onwards in variety broadcasts such as London Pie, Happy Ending and Give Me Air, moving into films after World War II with parts in Dick Barton Strikes Back, Double Confession, Whispering Smith Investigates and Down Among the Z Men with the Goons. He had a regular role in the post-war radio series The Adventures of P.C. 49 and made his television debut in 1951, building up a long list of credits including The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Benny Hill Show, The Army Game, Hancock's Half Hour, No Hiding Place, Dixon of Dock Green, Emergency-Ward 10, Hugh and I, Softly Soft
