Manuel Calderon is the brother of a former drug lord, Cesar Calderon, and murderer of Dr. Valerie Monroe. Monroe was taking care of his brother Cesar following a recent heart attack. The two were gradually becoming romantically involved as well, to the point that Cesar gave Monroe a bracelet that had belonged to his mother (although he denied that their relationship was ever physical).
