In 1904 PD, he held the rank of Captain and served as Staff Operations Officer for Task Force Hancock. He attended a meeting with Vice Admiral Sir Yancey Parks aboard the superdreadnought HMS Gryphon, where he was ordered to assign screening units for ships assigned to the Alizon, Yorik, and Zanzibar systems.
