Atomism is the philosophical school of thought that states that matter is made up of indivisible units called atoms and empty void. Atomists thought that atoms come up in infinite shapes and sizes, also they thought that they bounce off each other, and hook to form structures. We now know that some of it is wrong, and matter is not just made up of atoms but subatomic particles.
