The Battle of Kyuden Tonbo occured in 704 after the Phoenix shugenja Isawa Maroko, who was betrothed to Akodo Yokutsu, married her true love Mirumoto Asijin. Yokutsu was infuriated, and as the couple settled in the plains south of the Dragon lands, Yokutsu led and army of 5'000 Lion against them. When he got there he found both the Phoenix Clan and Dragon Clan armies waiting for him. As he tried to retreat he was stopped by shugenja and not allowed to leave until he vowed never to harass Asijin or Maroko again. Pleased with the outcome of the Battle of Kyuden Tonbo, the Emperor awarded the Tonbo family name and minor clan status on the couple.
