A temporal orbit was a manoeuvre involving a TARDIS travelling back over its own time stream and holding in orbit over a single temporal location. This manoeuvre was used by the Eighth Doctor in his TARDIS (though Grace Holloway was at the controls) to reverse the effects of the Eye of Harmony on Earth in 1999. (TV: Doctor Who) The Eighth Doctor also used a temporal orbit to develop a cure for Janusian radiation sickness after Samantha Jones had died from it, in order to be able to return prior to her death and save her.
