The Great Hunt was a competition held on Nal Hutta, and throughout the galaxy, once every standard year, lasting one standard month. It was designed to attract bounty hunters and mercenaries, as the prize money numbered in the hundreds of thousands and there was ample opportunity to prove combat prowess. Most of the winners, statistically, were Mandalorians.
