Doll in the story Crespian and Clairan, (presumably the female) capable of dancing on skates with its partner and also exerting a strange hypnotic effect upon the boy who stole it. Assumed to have been made in Russia. The name is said (albeit vaguely) to have been taken from a map and Cannes-et-Clairan is, indeed, a place name, a commune in southern France, in the Gard department that also contains the commune of Crespian, to the northeast of Carcassonne. It is also mentioned in The Yellow House and A Christmas In Carcosa by DJ Tyrer.
