The 1996 Winston Select 500 was a Winston Cup (now Nextel Cup) event held at Talladega Superspeedway on April 28, 1996. Sterling Marlin won his first race of the year, leading the most laps and holding off Dale Jarrett by two-tenths of a second. Dale Earnhardt finished 3rd and maintained a 77-point championship cushion on Jarrett. Stats This race is most memorably known for a multi-car crash that sent Ricky Craven barrell rolling into the turn one catch fencing, in which cars drove under Craven while he was in the air. Craven walked away with bruises and a sprained ankle.
