Dr. Wily sent two Gear Clowns to California Games to make the N Team generate more "competition energy." They taunted Kevin Keene and Princess Lana, calling them "slowpokes" as they sped past the N Team members on BMX bikes. Instead of making Kevin and Lana more competitive, however, the Gear Clowns annoyed them and almost made them quit participating.
