Zarir, alternatively spelled Zarih was a Sasanian prince and lead a rebellion in northern Iran in 485. Armenian historian Ghazar Parpetsi was the only source of Zarir and his life, he stated the latter was a son of the Sasanian shah, Yazdegerd II. Zarir had seven brothers, Balash, Hormizd III, and Peroz I. When Peroz I died (successor of his father as shah), Balash became elected as king by nobility and clergy. Zarir was angered with the election and rebelled, eventually Balash was forced to make peace with the enemy Vahan Mamikonian and sent him leading an army to suppress the rebellion of Zarir. Zarir was defeated, fled to the mountains and was captured quickly and killed.
