The clone of Darth Maul was a Zabrak Sith Lord and clone of the original Darth Maul who had been killed by Obi Wan Kenobi on Naboo. Nearly a decade after Maul's death, Palpatine had his old apprentice cloned, using an untested and highly risky accelerated cloning process, on Kamino, hoping to have Maul fight for the Confederacy of Independent Systems in the fast-approaching Clone Wars. Maul served the CIS during the war and was one of its few commanders to survive the war. Maul fled from his final battle on Mustafar to Kalakar Six, where he joined the Prophets of the Dark Side.
