An Italian-backed coup brought the Corporatist Party leader Shefqet Vërlaci to power, forcing King Zog to abdicate. Vërlaci then officially requested that the King of Italy assumed the crown. The Kingdom was shortly afterward integrated into the Italian Empire's state apparatus, only retaining autonomy in token areas.
