abstract	Marius Pontigrazzi was the slow-witted handyman and porter for the Marcoli family in Venice. Since the extended Marcoli family was Venice's Committee of Correspondence, he was also a member of the Committee. In 1634, he accompanied the Committee, Michel Ducos, and the three Stone brothers to Rome, in what was planned as an attempt to rescue Galileo. In fact, Ducos attempted to use him as a cat's-paw to assassinate Pope Urban VIII. He did fire a flintlock pistol at Pope Urban, but to no effect, as Frank Stone had covertly removed the priming so that Marius would not accidentally shoot himself. In the aftermath of that, he was unintentionally shot and killed by Gerry Stone.
