The Second Battle of the White Mountain was fought in July of 1633 between forces commanded by Albrecht von Wallenstein and Gottfried Pappenheim and Austrian forces sent by Emperor Ferdinand II. The Austrians were decisively defeated, and Bohemia's independence from the Austrian Habsburgs was, for the immediate future, secured. The battle was actually fought about 20 miles from the White Mountain (Bílá Hora, in Czech), but the victors got to choose the name, and Wallenstein apparently thought it was appropriate.
