The Imperial Secret Police (ISP) was a covert organisation tasked with maintaining the obedience of the Galactic Empire's population. It was set up almost over-night after Palpatine's dissolution of the Galactic Republic and ruthlessly enforced both Imperial law and obedience to the state. It continued to operate relatively unchanged until the Galactic Civil War broke out, when its duties began to include the execution of members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic and distributing anti-rebel propaganda throughout the Empire.

| - The Imperial Secret Police (ISP) was a covert organisation tasked with maintaining the obedience of the Galactic Empire's population. The ISP was feared by almost every citizen of the Empire and many believed its numbers were far greater than they really were. At any one time, the ISP had no more than 5000 members. However, it had an army of civilian spies and informers who would betray colleagues, neighbours, friends and even relatives to the ISB in exchange for monetary rewards and the guaranteed protection of the ISB. The ISP's parent agency was the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB), who held some measure of authority over the smaller ISP. However, the ISP outlived the ISB and was also much more influential within Imperial society.
