Settled in the 18th century by a mixture of british and germanic celts with other european colonists, the early years of New Zealand were highly conflicted, with the native Maori tribe being wiped out as German and English settlers pushed out the French and Spanish settlers. Coming to a compromise then home countries of these colonies broke down. They formed their own nation, highly isolationist under a Ruler for life.
