On December 17, 1979, Barrett set the land speed record at Edwards Air Force Base in California, achieving a velocity of 739.666 mph and breaking the sound barrier. However, this was an unofficial record attained without sanction of the USAF. His son, Stanton, has raced in NASCAR's NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series for a number of years. He may be the first Star Trek performer to have had any sort of connection with NASCAR. For besides the fact that his son is a NASCAR driver, he and actor Burt Reynolds co-owned a team for which Harry Gant was the driver. Stan is not related to Majel Barrett.

Biography
  • Stan Barrett is a former NASCAR driver and Hollywood stuntman from Bishop, CA. His son is Stanton Barrett, who is also a racecar driver and stuntman. In his career, Barrett competed in nineteen Sprint Cup Series events. His part-time schedule prevented him from placing high in points, but Barrett earned two top-tens in his career and also led four laps. Barrett made his NASCAR debut in 1980 at the American 500 at Rockingham Speedway, driving the #40 Chevrolet owned by D.K. Ulrich. He started seventeenth and finished eleventh, twenty laps down. He drove two more races that season and had a tenth place run at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The following season, he began driving the #22 Skoal Bandit Pontiac for Mach 1 Racing. He made ten starts that year and had a career-high 9th place finish at Talladega Superspeedway. The next season, he only ran the 1982 Daytona 500 for Ulrich, and exited early due to an engine failure. Barrett did not run until 1989, when he drove four races in the #90 Hawaiian Tropic Ford, but only finished one race at Watkins Glen International. His final Cup start came at the 1990 Banquet Frozen Foods 300, when he finished seventeenth in Rick Hendrick's Ultra Slim Fast Chevrolet. In 2008, he began driving once again in NASCAR. He was originally scheduled to attempt Mexico City for his son in the #31, but he was replaced by Kenny Hendrick. He later attempted Montreal in the #61 Specialty Racing Chevrolet, and was able to qualify in the 42nd position and finished 39th. External Links *Stats at Racing-Reference.info
