Syntax 3 allows you to upgrade other things. Currently, this is limited to 'shield generator'. Syntax 4 allows you to upgrade an item, such as a weapon or armor, provided you have the adequate materials: armor parts for armor, blaster parts for blasters, and scrap metal for melee weapons. Upgrading is based on the Engineer skill. If you aren't particularly skilled, be prepared to lose a lot of upgrade components.
