I asked them what it would be like. They said, "Oh, it's nothing. We do it all the time. All you have to do is set up a Resonance Well, reverse the polarity, harness the arc generating plasma conductors..." My mind shut off at around that time as they blathered on with their explanation. I woke up, in the real world, with dry clothes and a hell of a headache.

What really happened was that I sat with the otaku tribe around what appeared to be a virtual representation of the Frisch's Big Boy. We sat in a circle around this icon and they all went zonked out on me. I took that as my cue to go VR and see where they were going. I was expecting to see the usual lines of data and the ever-present Watcher standing stoically at the corners of my vision. Instead, I was surrounded by waves and water. The world, from my perspective, was shoving up and down, as if I was at sea. Which apparently, I was. I was at the wheel of a old Renaissance-era schooner... or rather, a Pirate Ship. I was driving the ship away from the center of a whirlpool, sucking me in where the Frisch's Big Boy used to stand. I rolled my eyes and said "You've got to be kidding me." I even had a crew... well, a skeleton crew. Literally. They were skeletons. It was like something from a bad sim flick. I'm not really quite sure how an old sailing ship is supposed to sail out of a whirlpool in the first place. I was hearing veiled whispers through the rain and the howling wind to "Turn back! Go into the whirlpool!" I guessed that those whispers were from the otaku, so I turned the wheel and started to curve back into the whirlpool. Then the tentacles stretched out from the center, and I said, "Shit. Screw this, I'm getting out of here." It was too late by then, though. I had this nice and long sinking feeling as the ship collided with the tentacles and went front-first into the center of the whirlpool. I threw my arms up, as if I was on a roller coaster ride... I figured "What the hell... might as well." It's more fun that way. The crash faded me to black. I woke up, in the real world, with dry clothes and a hell of a headache.
