  • The 5th Age started when the Pantheon agreed to give more power to the mortals; culiminating (thus far) in the War of Souls and the stripping of Takhisis' and Paladine's Immortality.
  • The Age of Mortals is the current period of events that unfolds after the death of Deathwing, the traitorous Dragon Aspect. The Age of Mortals was proclaimed by Alexstrasza after the ancient power of the Dragon Aspects expended. The time before was known as the Age of Chaos. It is now the charge of Azeroth's mortal races to safeguard their world themselves. The Age of Mortals and its consequences were touched upon in The Mists of Pandaria with the Keepers of Time reforming as the Timewalkers and enlisting mortals to help them police the timeways. The only major events to take place in the Age of Mortals are the Alliance-Horde War and the War in Draenor. There seems to be some discrepancy about the definition of the Age of Mortals, as Thol'embaar states "Others will come... the age of mortals... has passed." before Deathwing was even defeated, seemingly referring to the reign of mortals over Azeroth. In the Warcraft III cinematic "Eternity's End," Medivh implies that a similar concept began with the Battle of Mount Hyjal.
