Conan and Belit chase Sonja and her stolen scroll through the mountains outside Messentia. As the barbarian begins to overtake Sonja, a coincidental rockslide splits them, and Sonja gains a large lead. Meanwhile, the mysterious hooded priest who has been observing the events begins to cast a spell, invoking his god Set. Sonja makes her way to Karanthes's temple, the Nest of the Sacred Ibis, and the priest reveals that he was behind the landslide, to Sonja's frustration, who would rather fight her own battles. Suddenly, Conan, who has successfully tracked Sonja, comes into the chamber, and a battle breaks out between the two warriors.
