  • Harold Goodwin was born 22nd October, 1917 in Wombwell, Yorkshire, and died 3rd June, 2004 in Middlesex. He was an English actor who played three roles in Coronation Street: * Charlie Pimlott in December 1963 * Norman Pearson in July 1971 * the recurring part of Joss Shackleton, Vera Duckworth's natural father, in early 1991. He became interested in the stage after seeing Love On The Dole starring a young Wendy Hiller. While working at a biscuit factory, he took part in amateur dramatics and gained a place at RADA and went on to work at Liverpool repertory theatre for three years, followed by a West End season in Laurence Olivier's Old Vic company at the New Theatre in 1949. He remains best-know for his many film and television appearances throughout his long career, also appearing in the latter medium from 1946 onwards after the resumption of the service following the Second World War, playing parts in Hancock's Half Hour, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Quatermass and the Pit, No Hiding Place, The Avengers, Dixon of Dock Green, a regular role in United!, a BBC 1960s soap, Man in a Suitcase, The Dustbinmen, Nearest and Dearest, Z Cars, The Onedin Line, Oh No, It's Selwyn Froggitt, Play for Today, Angels, The Gentle Touch and All Creatures Great and Small . Among many film roles were parts in The Happiest Days of Your Life, The Man in the White Suit, The Cruel Sea, A Kid for Two Farthings, The Dam Busters, The Ladykillers, The Prince and the Showgirl, The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Mummy, Sink the Bismark!, The Bulldog Breed and Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed .
