It was a respectable debut for the driver, starting 23rd and completing all but thirty-four laps in the race to show in 24th place. Secrist stepped it up to a two-race schedule during the 1957 season, competing first at Willow Springs. It was a tough first road course race for the driver, finishing 26th with a broken connector rod. He fared no better, though, in his other start that year, finishing 21st at Gardena with brake woes. Secrist did not return to the sport until the 1960, running two more races. He made quite a return at first, turning in the pole speed at Hanford. But after leading eight laps in the race, Secrist quietly fell out of the event and finished 27th. He fared little better in his first career start at Sacramento, finishing 15th with overheating woes. Secrist made his final three starts during the 1961 season, when he wound up with a career-best 97th place finish in points. His year, though, started off again with a tough outing, this time finishing 31st at Daytona and subsequently missing the Daytona 500. but afterwards, Secrist was fantastic. He closed out his career with a 14th place showing at Hanford and then struck gold with a career-best 4th place showing at Sacramento.
