Hlar was married to Ranii Mhel, a chief examiner, and with her fathered several children; Vigg-Nish, Dar-Nish, Mun-Mun, Cryl-Nish Hlar, Hisly and an unidentified daughter who died during childbirth (much like her paternal grandmother). Cryl-Nish would father a son, Yllii, who would die shortly after birth. Jal-Nish Hlar would later usurp control of Santhenar, with the use of the Profane Tears, before naming himself God-Emperor. All his children, bar Cryl-Nish, having died, and he himself having been rendered infertile, Hlar turned his sights on his last remaining child to produce offspring to continue his legacy; however, Cryl-Nish had abandoned his father, viewing him as a monster for the evil deeds he committed, especially the murder of Cryl-Nish's beloved, Irisis Stirm.
