Mostly for economic reasons. Find out more on Jimmy Wales' blog I guess its because it would have grown to a more powerful tool than google and that is what we dont do today. We do not endanger the economy of a big player even if it would be a better thing for everybody. On second thought it would have been a free search without standard censoreship going on at all the other search enginges and we dont want to have that as well.
